in 2021 we switched to a green energy provider using 100% renewable electricity from solar, wind and hydro

As a licensed zoo it is our social and moral responsibility to be actively involved in conservation, as well as bringing you closer to the world of Reptiles, Amphibians and Invertebrates with our exhibits and information boards you will find around the building we are are also involved with the following projects.

Terrapin sanctuary - Our main role is to provide sanctuary to terrapins that would otherwise be euthanised due to Invasive species legislation. We are a licensed holding facility for invasive species namely Slider species of terrapins here in the UK being the Red Eared Slider Terrapin and the Yellow Bellied Slider terrapin. By providing sanctuary for these we are not only saving their lives we are able to work alongside national organisations such as the RSPCA when they find one in the wild that needs an urgent home. we have extensive information boards next to our turtle pond to inform and educate the public on the threat that invasive species have on our ecosystems.

Also on the invasive species theme we have worked to raise awareness of the invasion of Asian Hornets by placing monitoring traps and information signs around the country park in which we are located. Asian Hornets pose a serious threat to our native bee species, we collaborate with the local Asian Hornet watch group to obtain monitoring traps and information.

We are lucky enough to be situated in a country park which allows us the freedom to work with local native species, we perform monitoring walks for Stag Beetles, provide nest boxes for Hazel Dormice and partake in monitoring of native reptiles and amphibians in the park.

We are always thinking of ways in which we can constantly add to our conservation work so please keep an eye on this page for future updates.
